Victorian Nutcracker
Looking for something fun and enriching? Why not head over to the Merrill Auditorium and watch the incredible Victorian Nutcracker preformed by the Portland Ballet Company. Tickets for the event are priced between $22 to $52. The show will be running Friday December 23 at 2pm and again at 7:30pm. You’ll love the classic nutcracker story set to a Victorian stage. The show will be one to remember. There will be no front row seating for the show due to the live orchestra that will be filling rows A through E. So if you do want a front row seat try to snag some tickets for row F. The show is sure to impress so bring the whole family along! Not only will it be fun to watch the story come to life on stage but it will be good to get the family out of the house and have them experience live music, dance and theater all in one night!

Gideon Bok Wall Drawing/Covers artist lecture and closing reception
Gideon Bok worked in the Space Gallery through November and December on a charcoal wall drawing, using SPACE as the subject. Gideon’s interior paintings and drawings highlight the passage of time, usually utilizing the space where the work is made. They feature the changing cast of characters who have stopped by, records strewn about, and other artifacts such as musical instruments, empty bottles, and semi-complete paintings. Gideon will give a slide talk about his work and we’ll celebrate the completion of this project at SPACE Gallery in the Old Port.

Winter Fun
Looking for something fun to do this winter other than curl up with a blanket and watch a movie? Why not go outside and play in the snow! There are tons of fun activities that you can get the kids into. Some can be exciting like sledding down a hill as fast as you can. Others can be creative such as snow building and coloring. No matter what kind of fun the kids want to participate in warmth is important. Before any outdoor activity make sure your kids are equipped with the proper clothing. To really stay warm your kids
should have a good pair of boots, jacket, snow pants, warm socks, gloves or mittens, and a hat. It is essential that these items keep your kids dry as well as warm. A cold, wet kid could easily turn into a cold and no one wants a sick kid. So make sure yours are bundled up! Some exciting activities for your children to participate in could be sledding, ice skating, or even snowboarding or skiing. Some safer activities may be suitable for the younger kids. Some fun activities with less risk could be snowman building or snow sculpting. An easy way to let the kids be creative is to add some color. Take a spray bottle and fill it with water then add a couple drops of food color and your ready to go.
Love spending time with the kids? Why not do it more often and for less! Stop by Festiva Adventure Club l0cated at 190 Riverside St in Portland. Skijoring – fun for you and your furry best friend!
Have you ever heard of skijoring?
It’s the amazing combination of cross country skiing while getting pulled by your own (or a trained) dog. New England Dog Sledding at the Telemark Inn near Bethel offers hourly lessons on their well-maintained trails so you can learn the fun and exciting ropes of skijoring. You and your best friend can be off, grooving in sync down the trails. Or let the well trained skijoring dogs of New England Dogsledding take you along on a groomed trail cardiovascular Nordic venture. This is a sport where the dogs and you share the effort and the joy together.
For Dogs who love to run, and people who love to ski- this is a great fusion of combined efforts and joys. To extend the skijoring season- this sport can be transferred from Nordic skis to wheels during the Fall and Spring with the use of Mt. Bikes and scooters. The same dog training and skills apply – just add wheels (and brakes).
You can bring your own dog for these lessons or you can use one of the Siberian Huskies that are already trained to skijore. If you bring your own dog, he or she must be 30 pounds or more. 3 hour group lessons $150 per person / 2 hour lessons $275 for first person $75 for each added person Telemark Inn will supply you and your family with the harnesses and all you have to do is bring in your own Nordic ski equipment.
While you are in Southern Maine, you should stop over at our Portland Festiva Adventure Club location to learn how you and your family can experience fun filled activities like skijoring all year long, and for a cheaper amount then you ever imagined. At Festiva Adventure Club we will guide you through one of our 120 minute presentations about how you can vacation more often and for a price that will fit your budget.
