Thanksgiving
Are you ready for Thanksgiving? It is right around the corner. There are many known facts about Thanksgiving such as we celebrate it the third Thursday in November. That the natives saved the lives of the struggling pilgrims, and of course that there will be turkey on our dinning room tables. There are many things that we don’t know about thanksgiving. Did you know that only half of the pilgrims who crossed to America on the Mayflower survived their first winter? This is a major factor in why the first Thanksgiving was celebrated. Natives from the Wampanoag Tribe taught the pilgrims how to plant and grow nutritious foods, catch fish and even how to avoid poisonous plants. Without the help of the Wampanoag Tribe the colonists would have been in serious trouble. The pilgrims were so thankful that they natives had essentially saved their lives they decided to throw a celebration, Thanksgiving. The first Thanksgiving lasted not one, but 3 days. It wasn’t until 1863 that Thanksgiving became an official national holiday. Thanksgiving is a great day to relax, eat way too much and enjoy each others company. It should be a day where we reflect and realize what we are really thankful for.

His squires will usher all the guests to a forested glen where songs are heard while all wait the arrival of the King and Queen. One of the King’s court officials will maintain all decorum and frivolity for the evening and will ask all to join the King, Queen and royal court to the Great Hall for a feast.
Amidst the magical décor of the Great Hall are its wenches in service to the King and his guests, preparing to serve a robust, five course feast including. By order of the King, all will eat their meal without utensils! Fruit and alcoholic beverages will be served and available at the King’s cash bar throughout the evening.
Comedy is also in the air, along with the traditional costume contest! Wear your finest costume and join the King and his Queen for great merriment! For tickets, click here!

STRAIGHT NO CHASER
If the phrase “male a cappella group” conjures up an image of students in blue blazers, ties, and khakis singing traditional college songs on ivied campuses… think again.
Straight No Chaser (SNC) are neither strait-laced nor straight-faced, but neither are they vaudeville-style kitsch. As original member Randy Stine comments, “We take the music very seriously; we just don’t take ourselves too seriously.” In the process, they are reinventing the idea of a cappella on the modern pop landscape.
Originally formed over a dozen years ago while students together at Indiana University, the group has reassembled and reemerged as a phenomenon – with a massive fanbase, more than 20 million views on YouTube, numerous national TV appearances, and proven success with two holiday releases, 2008’s HOLIDAY SPIRITS and 2009’s CHRISTMAS CHEERS as well as WITH A TWIST, released last spring. In an era when so much pop music is the product of digital processing and vocal pro-tooling, Straight No Chaser is the real deal – the captivating sound of ten unadulterated human voices coming together to make extraordinary music that is moving people in a fundamental sense… and with a sense of humor. Come see them at Merrill Auditorium this November 15th and experience them for yourself!
Tuesday 11.15.2011, Starts at 7:30pm, Tickets $48.50/$41.50/$36.50 including handling fees.
