Oneida Concert at SPACE gallery

Posted in Festiva Adventure Club tagged , , , , , , , , at 7:02 am by festivaportland

COME SEE ONEIDA IN CONCERT THIS SATURDAY!

Buy tickets here or at all Bull Moose locations.

Prolific and eclectic, Oneida resists easy classification.  The Brooklyn psych-rockers draw from minimalism and kraut-rock, restlessly and relentlessly exploring rhythms, repetitions and textures, making heavy use of percussion, analog equipment, hypnotic loops of driving sound.

Champions of under-recognized awesomeness (they founded Brah! Records – an imprint of Jagjaguwar – to promote artists they believe in), Oneida do not shy away from sonic adventures, as their legendary live sets attest.

In September 2007 the group celebrated 10 years of existence with a concert at the P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center in NYC.

In June 2008, it was announced that the band would be releasing a triptych of new records, referred to as the “Thank Your Parents” series. The first of these was Preteen Weaponry, which was released in August 2008, and the second was a triple album, Rated O, released in July 2009. The final release, the experimental Absolute II, followed in 2011.

The band have been chosen to perform their third extended ‘Ocropolis’ set at the ATP I’ll Be Your Mirror festival curated by ATP & Portishead in September 2011 in Asbury Park, New Jersey; so this is a BIG treat, them coming to SPACE gallery.

Company joins the evening, bringing an authoritative and deep take on folk, punk, and country traditions in their stellar songs. This show is doubling as SPACE Gallery co-founder Jon Courtney’s big 40th birthday bash, so come make it extra-memorable for the guy!

Saturday 09.17.2011, Doors at 8:30 PM, Starts at 9:00 PM, $10, 18+

Today is the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure!

Posted in Festiva Adventure Club tagged , , , , , , , , at 6:30 am by festivaportland

The Susan G. Komen Race for theCure® Series, the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world, raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.

Since its inception in 1983, the Komen Race for the Cure series has grown from one local Race with 800 participants to a global series of more than 120 Races with more than 1 million people expected to participate in 2011.

The Komen Race for the Cure is a unique event, designed and implemented to promote positive awareness, education and early detection of breast cancer.  It has proved to be an enormously effective way to reach many women and men with the message that breast cancer is not necessarily fatal if mammography and breast self-exam become routine. As well as being a road race for runners, the Komen Race for the Cure is an emotionally charged event that attracts many first timers and recreational runners. The Komen Race for the Cure is an opportunity for thousands of women, men and their families, running or walking, to spread the breast cancer message within their communities.

Up to 75 percent of the funds raised at the Race remain here in the Komen Maine Affiliate to provide breast health research, diagnostics, screening, treatment, services and education for uninsured or underinsured women.  The remaining 25 percent goes to fund national research to discover the causes of breast cancer and, ultimately, its cures.

Why the participants need your support:

Every step counts! Your donation provides women and men in the Komen Maine Affiliate with services that have literally saved lives. You help make the following programs possible:

  • Free mammograms and diagnostics
  • Medical treatment for qualified breast cancer patients who cannot afford care, including surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation
  • Support services including support groups, assistance with finding financial resources, prescription refills and transportation to medical appointments
  • Education about the warning signs of breast cancer, methods of early detection and the latest treatment options
  • Cutting edge research to find a cure for breast cancer

Stockhouse Restaurant and Sports Pub

Posted in Festiva Adventure Club tagged , , , , , , , at 8:25 am by festivaportland

Football season is upon us and if anything, it brings the family together. A fantastic place to go out and enjoy the game is the Stockhouse Restaurant & Sports Pub right on Main Street in Westbrook. There are TVs everywhere you look, as well as a bar and a game room. There are tables scattered throughout the large dining area, including outside on an expansive deck, where you and your family can enjoy the game and the food together. Buffalo Wild Wings watch out! Stockhouse is some serious competition.

The food is also great for the price with generous proportions. Choose anything from sandwiches to salads to burgers and of course, dessert. The options are fantastic for a sports bar and you will not be leaving the Stockhouse with an empty stomach.

Feel free to check out what the Stockhouse has to offer at http://www.thestockhouserestaurant.com!

And since you will be in the area, you should come into Festiva Adventure Club at our Portland location at 190 Riverside Street to learn about how you can vacation with your family at nicer places for the price you pay already. You will receive some free gifts as a thank you for sitting through one of our 120 minute presentations!
