Restaurant Week March 1st – March 12th
Restaurant Week is being held from March 1st thru March 12th and there are a ton of participating restaurants! You are probably asking “What is Restaurant Week?” This is the week that the chefs at local restaurants go above and beyond and offer special pricing on 3 course meals. The concept originated in NY in the early 90′s. Restaurants really fill up during this week, so you should really call ahead and make a reservation just to insure you aren’t waiting too long. This would be the week to visit Maine and be able to try a few of the many restaurants and save some money at the same time.

Festiva Resorts complaints resolved by new web presence
The latest Festiva Adventure Club complaints resolution effort (www.festivacomplaints.com) has helped to open new lines of communication between the company and its guests. The site is set up to handle issues at a corporate level, as well as individual Festiva resorts complaints.
Festiva Hospitality Group and Festiva Adventure Club recently launched a new web presence, Festiva Complaints Resolution Center, aimed at resolving online Festiva Resorts complaints and providing information to owners and guests trying to resolve their various Festiva complaints. Festiva has experienced an immediate positive reaction from its resort guests who have used the new service
“Since the launch of the Festiva Resorts Complaints Resolution site we have seen an overall decrease of complaints submitted to third-party websites as our customers are finding that when they contact us directly, their issues are resolved much faster and more effectively than when they submit their complaints to a third-party site that offers no resolution,” says Sara Little, Festiva’s Director of Corporate Communications.
One of the most significant accomplishments of the new site is the facilitated direction of complaints to the proper departments within the company for quicker resolution and away from false “Festiva scam” websites which were set up in the past to masquerade as the company’s complaints department.
Little explains, “We realized several years ago that in order to keep up with the fast-paced and ever-changing world of the internet, and specifically social media, we need to actively participate in the online conversations that are already taking place within our industry. We have since taken several steps to utilize various forms of technology to improve customer service and communication with our owners and guests, and festivacomplaints.com is the latest tool we are using to reach out to our web-savvy customers.”
Festiva Hospitality Group and Festiva Adventure Club’s family of resorts include a wide range of properties across the U.S. and Caribbean, including a fleet of luxury yachts. Festiva resorts include such premium properties as the Church Street Inn, the Atrium Resort, and Ellington at Wachesaw Plantation East.

Gustafer Yellowgold
Gustafer Yellowgold at The Space Gallery
Saturday 04.09.2011, Doors at 1:30 PM, Starts at 2:00 PM, $8, All Ages
Singer Morgan Taylor, when he’s not recording with members of Wilco and Duncan Sheik, caters to an active and often verbally inquisitive audience—perfect for children and families. We think this is some of the best children’s music around with Taylor entertaining kids and parents alike with cool songs that don’t insult a five year old’s (or a fifty year old’s) intelligence. He returns to SPACE with the latest installment in the story of Gustafer Yellowgold, a golden alien who comes to life in a “moving book” of songs and pictures, projected in full color onto a big screen, with subtitles for early readers. The New York Times called the Gustafer show and accompanying live music “a cross between ‘Yellow Submarine’ and Dr. Seuss, filtered through the lens of the Lower East Side.”

Dining with Class
Katahdin: Good food, drinks and a place for newcomers
They are an American Grill and Bar. They use Oak, Apple and Almond wood when they grill fish, chops, ribs, steaks, and feature flavors from around the world. Their signature dishes include Seared Ahi Tuna with Ginger Glazed Pork Belly, The K Raw Bar with Maine’s finest selection of oysters and the freshest local ingredients available. Even if the hanger steak was too charred to taste as good as it should, high compliments go to chef/owner Becky Lee Simmons for the scallops on silky sweet potato and bacon hash, perfect pork dumplings and an excellent flourless chocolate cake with ganache.
The upstairs level, with some tables overlooking the bar and the first floor, is wrapped in butterscotch walls and gleaming sconces. Art worth studying hangs on the stairs and the walls. The business’s mascot, a steel mermaid with a sinuous tail, still holds the eye with her unaging attractions. Skinny, chewy slices of focaccia are brought to the table with a dish of olive oil, herbs and balsamic; the focaccia, itself no stranger to olive oil, was a rich indulgence once dipped in that dish.
Steamed ginger pork dumplings ($9) beat out most Asian restaurant versions with delicate wrappers and lovely savory stuffing, though we were a little sad that only three were served. The lime dipping sauce kept its focus on sour and salty flavors, perfect with the dumplings. Oysters on the half shell ($14) with Champagne mignonette are served most nights, and Maine oysters comprise the usual offering.
27 Forest Avenue Portland, Maine 207.774.1740; Open Tuesday through Saturday 5pm til 11pm
