Become a Jr. Chocolatier

Does your child love to help you cook and bake?  Wilber’s of Maine Chocolate Confections, of Freeport,  will be holding a chocolate school for children.  For the first 3 Monday nights in August from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Wilbur’s of Maine will hold “Be a Jr. Chocolatier” classes. Each session features 3 classes, giant marshmellow pops, paint a moose pop, and chocolate covered oreos. Seesions are $18 or you can take individual classes at $6 each.  When you enroll your child for the full session he or she will graduate from Wilber’s Chocolate School with a Diploma, followed by a celebration of icecream sundae’s.

Bangor State Fair Starts Tomorrow

For just $10 you can not only get into the Bangor State Fair but you can also get access to all the rides and shows.  The fair runs from July 30 through August 8 and there is so much to see and do.  There are bike stunt shows, a backyard circus, a motorcycle show, a human cannonball, a sheep show, laser tag, a goat show, racing ducks, rides and more.  You can also learn all about Florida reptiles, kangaroos, wallabies, kookaburras, rainbow lorikeets and more.

Senior Citizen Day is on August 5 and on this day all seniors, 60 and older, get free admission.  Parking on site is just $5 per vehicle.  If you would like to perform at the next fair, send your information to Bangor State Fair, 100 Dutton Street, Bangor, ME 04401.  Audio or visual samples of your work are helpful.  Don’t forget to include pricing information for the ten day fair.  Attractions begin to get booked in the Fall for the next year.

Monmouth Fair

The Monmouth Fair begins tomorrow, Wednesday, July 28 and will take place through Saturday, July 31. The fair is brought to you by the Cochnewwagon Agricultural Society and will be located at 75 Academy Road, Monmouth, Maine. “A little fair with a lotta pull”, as the Monmouth Fair is referred to, is a small family oriented fair whose goal is to entertain and educate the public in agricultural matters through shows, displays, demonstrations, participation, and a great celebration of rural life past and present. Lincoln County Fair

Come celebrate the 250th anniversary of Lincoln County, Maine with the first ever Lincoln County Fair. The fair will take place at Wiscasset Raceway from Thursday, July 22 to Sunday, July 25. Enjoy traditional fair rides, games and food along with motorsports events as well. The Enduro Championship will take place on July 23, the Maine Monster Truck Championship will take place on July 24, and the Maine Alliance Late Model Championship Series will take place on July 25. The Sea Dogs are back at Home

Head over to Hadlock Field and cheer on the Portland Sea Dogs as they take on the Harrisburg Senators. They will play four home games from Thursday, July 22 through Sunday, July 25 (visit the Sea Dogs website for game times and more information). Come to the field early Saturday and Sunday for fun and exciting promotions. Enjoy a picnic style lunch and meet the 2010 Sea Dog’s team on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for only $15 (game ticket not included). On Sunday, come play catch on the field from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and then stay for the game. All you need is a ticket to Sunday’s game. There is no better way to enjoy beautiful summer weather than at the ball park, so come down to Hadlock Field and cheer on the Portland Sea Dogs.

Spend Your Summer in the Park with L.L. Bean

There are all kinds of fun activities going on this summer at L.L. Beans Summer in the Park.  On July 17 there will be a food festival, on July 24 there will be a concert by Rogue Wave, Kidsfest will be taking place on July 31, Shakespeare in the park is being held from August 3-6, a Mike Doughty concert will be on August 7, Dog days of August is going to be on August 14, an Ingrid Michaelson concert will be on August 21 and a Joshua Radin concert will be on September 4.  For a full schedule visit the website.

Kidsfest should be a blast on Saturday, July 31.  You will get the chance to see how a bicycle can power a blender and make a smoothie, enjoy some comedy and magic,  have the kids get some face painting done, take part in fun family games including classic camp games, visit live animals, make beach pebble necklaces, do some geocaching, learn all about animal tracks and footprints, make animal masks, enjoy a book signing for Goodnight Ocean, watch some juggling, get your picture taken with the Seadog’s mascot named Slugger, do a bean boot toss and more.  All activities are free unless noted otherwise.  Walk on adventures costs just $20 and you can try flycasting, kayaking, archery and more.  For updates feel free to call 877-755-2326.

Take an adventure with Odyssey

Reggae Sundays on Peaks Island

If you are going to be in Portland on Sunday head on out to Peaks Island and enjoy live reggae music and the beautiful view of Casco Bay. Bands Stream and Royal Hammer alternate performances every other weekend. Doors open at 10:00 a.m. and shows start at 1:00 p.m. at the Harbor View at Jones Landing. Not only will you enjoy great live music but also a wonderful ferry ride to and from Peaks Island. Take an early ferry and spend the whole day enjoying Maine’s beautiful Peaks Island. Have dinner at Seasons Grille

Like Clams? Head to the Yarmouth Clam Festival

From July 16th through July 18th The Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Yarmouth Clam Festival which is open to the public and completely free.  Each year over 3,000 residents get together in downtown Yarmouth to serve over 100,000 guests.  All proceeds go to more than 35 Yarmouth based non-profit organizations for their group activities.  Some of these organizations consist of schools and churches.

The festival includes a parade, a battle of cover bands, a carnival, a karaoke challenge, clam shucking competitions, fireworks, races, a diaper derby and more.  There is plenty of close, paid parking as well as a free lot which requires a trip on the free shuttle bus which runs every half an hour.  There will be free Belgian horse-drawn wagon rides along Main Street throughout the weekend as well as historic trolley rides and face painting.  You can enjoy a couple of breakfasts as well.  You don not want to miss the balloon zoo which will include magic tricks, games and balloon sculptures.
