Hit the beach!

Posted in Entertainment and Attractions, Family Fun, Festiva Adventure Club, Festiva Hospitality Group, Portland, ME tagged , , , , , , , at 12:50 pm by festivaportland

With today’s weather being mostly sunny with a high of 76 degrees it’s hard to believe it’s only the beginning of April.  For all of you beach lovers, I’m sure there are a few of you who decided to skip work and hit the beach!  Old Orchard Beach is voted Maine’s number one beach every year by Maine’s largest newspaper and it’s my personal favorite beach.  There are many reasons for this beach being most loved including the beautiful sand, the always entertaining pier and even the famous Palace Playland.

For those of you who are not familiar with Palace Playland, it is a four-acre amusement park that features over 25 rides and attractions.  The arcade which is one of the largest in New England totals 24,000 square feet and features over 200 games and attractions including my favorite, Skeeball!  What’s better than going on rides and playing games right on the beach?  In addition to the beautiful beach and thrilling amusements, Old Orchard Beach is also home to many different places to eat and gift shops.

www.palaceplayland.com

Single tickets for the amusements cost $1.15 each or you can get a book of 20 tickets for $21.50 or 50 tickets for $50.00.  The best option that I’ve found to get the most value for your money is to buy a day pass if you plan to stay a while, and once you get there, I can assure you you’ll want to stay!  An unlimited pass costs $28.95 and kiddie passes are $21.95.  If you’re staying in the area for the weekend or a vacation, two-day passes are available for $41.95 and kiddie two-day passes cost $26.95.  If you’re a real Old Orchard Beach fan, season passes are available for just $99.95.  Opening day in on April 16th and the season goes right up until October 11th. For more information including a map of the amusements, visit their website.

You could be sure to enjoy this area even more if you had a free Visa gift card to purchase tickets, food or souvenirs.  Give Festiva Hospitality Group a call at 888-695-0200 to schedule a time to come in and learn a little about our member’s only travel club called Festiva Adventure Club.  As a thank you for your time, the staff at Festiva will be happy to provide you will a Visa gift card to use at the beach or anywhere else that accepts Visa!

Baseball Season is back!

Posted in Entertainment and Attractions, Family Fun, Festiva Adventure Club, Local Events, Portland, ME tagged , , , , , , , at 11:17 am by festivaportland

The weather is getting warmer and baseball season is underway.  The Portland Sea Dogs are having their first game of the season this Thursday, April 8th at 7:05 pm vs. the Reading Phillies.  It’s an away game but that’s ok because their first home game of the season is scheduled for the following Thursday, April 15th at 6 pm vs. none other than the Trenton Thunder (Yankees)!  If you love baseball and have team spirit I’m sure you’ll be there at some point this season and if you’ve never been, you have to check it out but be careful, it’s addicting!

web.minorleaguebaseball.com

Tickets are fairly cheap compared to the prices for most activities these days.  Depending on the seat, adult tickets range from $7-$9 and child/senior tickets range from $4-$8.  Ticket office hours are Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm and Saturdays from 10am-3pm.  Gift certificates are available to be purchased at the Sea Dogs Ticket Office, Souvenir Store or by calling 207-879-9500.  You can also purchase them online.  The best part is the tickets don’t come in the form of a plain old piece of paper; they come in the form of minted ceramic coins that are imprinted with images of former Sea Dogs’ players who actually made it to the Major Leagues!  They are called Slugger Coins and they come in denominations of $2, $5 and $10.  They can be used for pretty much anything at the park including souvenirs, tickets, food and even speed pitch.  They don’t even have an expiration date!

If you are not familiar with the Sea Dogs, here are some fun facts:

  • Hadlock Field is named after Edson Hadlock Jr. who was the baseball coach at Portland High School during the years of 1950-1978.
  • The field opened on April 18th in 1994, so its 16th birthday is right around the corner.
  • Their version of Fenway’s Green Monster was built in 2003 when the Boston Red Sox became the affiliate of the Sea Dogs and it is called the Maine Monster.
  • The field has a seating capacity for 7,368 people.
  • Whenever a Sea Dogs player gets a home run and also when the Sea Dogs win a game, a lighthouse rises from the center field fence, how cool is that?
  • To learn more about the Sea Dogs, visit their website!

If you want to see another game or maybe even see your first, give Festiva Hospitality Group a call at 888-695-0200 and let the staff at Festiva give you all of the information you need on how to get a free Visa gift card from us to use at the game!  Then you’ll be sure to enjoy the game that much more when you can purchase the tickets or even some nice souvenirs on us at Festiva!
