Horses in Scarborough

If you’re ever in Scarborough check out Scarborough Downs. They are celebrating their 59th year of business. It is home of New England’s fastest half-mile track. Since it opened in the 1950′s it has been a thoroughbred track and then became a harness track in 1973. This is the only place to watch The Kentucky Derby and all the triple crown races.
They bought the track from Scarborough for $600 and the track was built in 75 days. You can bet on certain horses you think could win. The minimum wager is $2. New for 2009: full bar service and a concessions menu is available as well. Scarborough Downs is located on Rt. 1 in Scarborough right off of Payne Road. The phone number if you need to reach them is 207-883-4331. Visit their website for more information at www.scarboroughdowns.com

Dining In A Hole
Have you ever been to the Porthole restaurant in downtown Portland, Maine? The place might be open year round, but it is beautiful at this time of year. You can choose to either sit outside on the deck that overlooks the Portland Wharf, at the bar, or in the dining area. This morning, the sun was shining, the air was cool, and the salty sea breeze swam around my family and me as we enjoyed our breakfast. The atmosphere was relaxed and beautiful.

The food was reasonably priced and the portions appealing. The french toast was thick and the home fries a mixture of regular and sweet potatoes. Come enjoy the beautiful fall weather while it lasts and eat outside on one of the most enjoyable outdoor dining spots in downtown Portland! You can check out more about the Porthole at www.portholemaine.com. You can also check out our website at www.festivaresorts.com if you are interested in getting fantastic eating, sailing, and Foxwoods gift certificates for sitting through one of our 90 minute presentations!!!
